'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and
said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the
throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

It takes 6 to 18 months OR MORE for a veteran to receive the benefits
that they were guaranteed by our government?
Many end up like the gentleman below.

Now you know, are you willing to take a stand with us?
The men and women of our armed forces are the first to
defend us and our neighbors, the first to respond to
natural disasters all over the world, the first to sacrafice
for us. Its time for us to take the front lines, to say
THANK YOU.

When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by
the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of
empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United
States has sent many of its fine young men and women
into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders.
The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return
is enough to bury those that did not return.'

average?

Did you know about 33% of all homeless people are veterans?

Did you know Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an ongoing challenge for veterans of
all eras and is increasing among those returning from Iraq?

Did you know the suicide rate among veterans is increasing at an alarming rate?

Did you know that about 85% of in patients at VA facilities have an income of less than
$15,000 per year?

Did you know that the VA depends more and more on non-profit organizations like
VetAid to care for a large population of veterans who need medical treatment?

A Veteran ~ Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone
who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The
United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life".

That is Honor, and it seems there are way too many people in this country who no
longer understand.

A Holiday Message from the President

Here it is, the Holiday Season once again. The hustle and bustle of shopping
for gifts and the preparation of special meals for family and friends. The joys
of the season.

Some families will be without their family member or friend. They may be in a
foreign country or may have lost their life so that the rest of us may enjoy the
freedoms that we have in this country,  They continue to fight for us.
As you prepare for you traditional celebrations, take time to remember the
brave men and women who gave you that right. Thank a Vet or a current
service member for their sacrifices. Keep those families who are without their
loved one in your prayers, and pray that all our service personnel will return
home safe. Remember to treat one another as you would like to be treated.

May God Bless you and shine his loving light on you and yours not only
during the Holiday Season, but every day.
Merry Christmas,
