Shurvon Phillip is a Marine who survived Traumatic Brain Injury when the Humvee he was riding in exploded as a result
of an anti-tank mine that detonated.  Although he didn't receive any shrapnel, his brain was rattled so severely that it left
him with a permanent brain injury.  He also received a broken jaw and a broken leg in the incident.  The other Marines in
the Humvee were tossed about and received an assortment of injuries, but none as severe as Shurvon's.  This incident
occured while Shurvon was serving in Iraq in 2005.

Gail Ulerie, Shurvon's mother, has been his greatest support and advocate since this injury occurred, staying with him
24/7 to care for him.  Gail has worked out a communication system with Shurvon that consists of eye brow raising,
smiles, and sometimes he even rolls his eyes at her - - like when she suggested that he go shopping for new clothes at
Wal-Mart; he wanted to go to the mall.   The love between them is so evident and I feel honored to know both of them.

My heart goes out to this family and to the self-lessness that they show and the courage that they continue to display
against so many trials.  I was proud to be a part of Operation Holiday in support of Sgt Phillip's and his family.
